Pastor Rick: A Praying Mother

May 8th, 2011 Comments off

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mothers.  May God Bless you on this day and every day.

I want to send a special greeting to my own Mother since I can’t be with her today.  I hope you like the roses, Mom.   She is a big fan of the schoolmarm, so I know she will be reading this.

Now to today’s message:

Have you folks ever heard that old song by James Rowe, with a chorus that  says:

If I could hear my mother pray again,
If I could hear her tender voice as then!
So glad I’d be, ’twould mean so much to me,
If I could hear my mother pray again.

I grew up hearing my Mother’s prayers and expect to hear more.  I am glad we feel comfortable praying together.  Some of my friends  have never heard their mothers or fathers pray, except maybe grace at the table on holidays.  They feel awkward and shy about praying, and say it is too private to share openly.

As for me, I say it is good to pray aloud with  your children no matter young or how old they are.  Let them hear you talk to God on their behalf.  Let them hear you giving praise and thanks to your Heavenly Father.

It is never too late to start, so  the next time you are alone with your grown child, why not offer to say a prayer for him or her?  You might be surprised how much they appreciate it.

Have a wonderful day today and all you boys and men be sure to let your wives and mothers know how much they are loved and appreciated.

Peace be with you, Pastor Rick

Mother and Daughter

Happy Mother’s Day to my sister Norma and to her daughter Lori.   It is  wonderful to report Norma’s steady progress and to know how thrilled Lori is to have her ‘back’.  I hope they will soon be able to go places together and enjoy good times as they are in this picture.  My love is sent to both.

A Sad Mother’s Day for Astronaut Paolo Nespoli

In the news: Italy

Astronaut Paolo Nespoli was able to keep in touch with his ailing mother in Italy from the International Space Station via a video linkup, but he will miss her funeral.

Maria Motta, 78, died at home Monday evening as her eldest son continued his mission.  She was to be buried Wednesday after a funeral in the church in Verano Brianza, a town of 9,300 north of Milan.

Nespoli has been orbiting Earth since December on a mission scheduled to end in three weeks.

My prayers go to this young man who represents all the sons and daughters who grieve the loss of their mothers this day. As Christians we believe that we will be reunited with our loved ones and those who have served God faithfully. I woke up this morning thinking of those who have gone before and this song kept playing in my head.  Do you remember it?

You have heard of little Moses in the bull rush
You have heard of fearless David and his sling
You have heard the story told of dreaming Joseph
And of Jonah and the whale you often sing

Well, there is going to be a meeting in the air
In that sweet, sweet by and by
Well, I am going to meet you, meet you over there
In that home beyond the sky

So the singing you will hear never heard by mortals ears
Will be glorious, yes, I do declare
And God’s own son will be the leading one
At that meeting in the air

Well, there is going to be a meeting in the air
In that sweet, sweet by and by
Well, I am going to meet you, meet you over there
In that home beyond the sky

So the singing you will hear never heard by mortals ears
Will be glorious, yes, I do declare
And God’s own son will be the leading one
At that meeting in the air
