Parents and Teens

May 19th, 2011 Comments off

When we are teenagers our parents embarrass us no matter how perfect they are.  We  find something to roll our eyes at, to sigh at how they are ‘so not with it’.  That is natural.  It is a developmental phase,  our natural pulling away, to find our own way, to discover who we are apart from our parents. In time we come back.

Knowing this, it makes me feel even sadder for children of bad-behaving parents, public figures  who break moral codes, disappoint and become objects of ridicule and laughter, the butt of late-night talk shows.

No matter what the parent has given them materially, it becomes insignificant when it comes to the public humiliation felt by their children, who love them  in spite of it all.

The parent, famous or not, will have to live with the hurt they see in their kids’ eyes, because they will know they put it there.

Have you seen this?

Beautiful Custom-Built 2009 Wooden Car
This custom wooden car rides on a 1986 Toyota truck frame and gets power from a Chrysler 318 engine. It is driven by an automatic transmission and has merely 1,800 miles on its speedometer. The whole body is made of cedar and its interior is just as over-the-top as the exterior.

I received this in an email from Wilma, but can’t track down the owner.  It has led me to look for other wooden cars.  I didn’t know they existed.  Thanks Wilma, I’m always ready to learn something new!

Chaz

What do you think about Cher and Sonny’s daughter Chastity becoming Chaz?

Watching the Oprah show interview with Chaz and his girl friend, then watching the OWN special ‘Becoming Chaz,’ I was left feeling that he had done what he felt he had to do.  He matched his body image to the rest of him.

Chaz is a cute guy and you can still see that familiar face in the 42 year old.  His voice, now deepened with testosterone, sounds more like Sonny.

Cher misses her daughter.  I appreciate her honesty when she says that she had a very hard time accepting her daughter as a lesbian.    Then when she learns that her daughter isn’t a lesbian, but is a girl trapped in a boy’s body, she  was even more shocked. It would be an incredibly difficult thing to hear about one’s child. Cher worries about Chaz having to take testosterone shots twice a month for the rest of his life.

I don’t understand how this happens to a person, but I don’t think any one would choose this path lightly.  Chaz says he is now happy and at peace.

I wish him a long and healthy life.

Yikes!

In The News:

A German man, Sven Koppler, 37, described by a federal prosecutor as one of the ‘largest illegal importers of tarantulas,’ agreed to pay a $4000 fine along with serving six months in prison.

He pled guilty of shipping hundreds of live tarantulas by mail to the United States. He had previously admitted shipping 247 live tarantulas to federal agents in Los Angeles who had posed as buyers in a 10 month investigation dubbed ‘Operation Spiderman.’

Prosecutors said Koppler made #300,000 by selling spiders to people worldwide.

Koppler portrayed himself as a spider breeder and said shipping the arachnids is legal in Europe and other countries. A prosecution expert said in court documents he believed Koppler was one of the three largest spider smugglers in the world.

“I just can say I’m very sorry about what happened and it wasn’t my intention to defraud anyone or anything,” said the slender Koppler, who wore a dark suit and striped tie in court. “I definitely would not do this again.”

My question is – WHO is buying these creepy crawlers?  None for me thanks!
