A New American Idol: Scotty McCreery

May 25th, 2011 Comments off

So seventeen year old Scotty is the new American Idol! I am happy for him even though  Lauren was one of my early picks. For some time, however, I fully expected the final three to be James, Pia and Casey.  I really didn’t see it coming for Scotty to take it all.

As far as the last show goes, I thought GaGa was too raunchy for a family show. Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and GaGa shook their money makers and GaGa, well,  she loves to shock.  The over the top performances were certainly not  reflective of the wholesomeness of the winner.

I hope Scotty and Lauren both make it in country music and that they will  have wonderful careers. There are several others that I believe will make it too.

The tenth season was fun and I watched the show from the auditions all the way through. I look forward to the show  year after year.

Congratulations Scotty.  May God protect your from the hazards that come with success too early in life.  I pray that you will have good guidance from your parents and others who will use wisdom on what you are exposed to in the business.  I also pray that you can keep your devotion to the Lord and that He will be your ultimate guide.

Suggestions for Summer Fun, by

Ezra Jane Sparrow

Hi Everybody,

I just love summer and here it is!  One of the things I enjoy most about summer is the fresh fruit that is available. Now if I have to pick a favorite fruit then the one I pick is the peach.  There is none better than those wonderful peaches from Georgia.  Oh my!

Speaking of that – if you live any where near Fort Valley, Georgia, then head on over there June 3-11 for their Georgia Peach Festival.

  • Every year they bake up the world’s biggest peach cobbler.  Look at this recipe:
  • 150 pounds of flour,
  • 75 pounds of butter,
  • 150 pounds of sugar,
  • 32 gallons of milk, and
  • 75 gallons of peaches!

I’d get in line for a bowl of that!

Say, Ernestine, If you go again this year,  bring me back a bushel basket full of freestones.  Now make sure they have a creamy gold to yellow under-color, the red or ‘blush doesn’t mean it’s ripe.  They should smell peachy and be soft to the touch, but for heaven’s sake don’t squeeze them, they bruise easily.

See y’all later, E.J.

Myrna:Thinking ‘Outside the Box’

May 25th, 2011 Comments off

Have you seen this job Interview question? It is intended to see how people view life and their ability to problem solve – to think creatively, ‘outside the box.’

You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night. You pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for the bus:
1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
2. An old friend who once saved your life.
3. The perfect man (or) woman you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing that there could only be one passenger in your car?

Think before you continue reading. This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application.

You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first; or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to pay him back. However, you may never be able to find your perfect dream lover again.

One smart fellow answered: “I would give the car keys to my old friend, and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the woman of my dreams.”

See why he got the job?

Give me the words Doc!

I told the doctor I couldn’t do all the things around the house like I used to.

After he’d  examined me ever which way, I said “Now Doc, tell me in plain English just what is wrong with me.”

“Okay,  in plain English,” the doctor said, “you’re just lazy.”

“Well now,” I said.  “Could you give me the medical term so I can tell the wife?”

Words, Hugs, Thoughts, Hearts

Words, Hugs, Thoughts, Hearts….

by Julie Sullivan, Louisiana

Words that come from deep within the soul

Convey warmth that makes one feel whole

Hugs are part of expressing true emotion

Special human contact delivering devotion

Thoughts are forever eternal to the mind

As they give birth to memories that bind

Hearts have eyes with which they can see

The many visible kinds of love meant to be.
