Will's Car

March ’13, Photo by M. Borland

It looks as if Will Borland has a new sense of independence. With helmet in hand, he now can ‘motor’ about with the best of them.  Well, maybe not the best of them quite yet, but he is getting there.

If he is typical of most  American boys he will move through the passage of the trike, the bike (with training wheels), the two wheeler, and then someday . . . he’ll be in command of a 4,000 pound automobile.  It will happen faster than any of us can imagine.

Enjoy the ride, Sweet William,  may your angels keep constant guard over you and keep you safe from harm.

Book Club: ‘The Real Nick and Nora’ by David L. Goodrich

Nick & Nora

Being a fan of classic movies, I really enjoyed this book about the screenwriters of such great flicks as: It’s a Wonderful Life, The Thin Man, Easter Parade, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and The Diary of Anne Frank.

The writers were Frances Goodrich and her husband Albert Hackett.

In The Real Nick and Nora, the couple’s nephew, David L Goodrich unites a “dazzling assemblage of anecdotes featuring some of the most talented writers and brightest stars of the American stage and screen as he crafts a vivid portrait of the duo’s life, love, and lasting influence on Broadway and Hollywood.”

Beautifully researched and chocked full of stories about how some of the ‘rich and famous’ lived;  this couple, in the midst of the phoniest,  appear to have been for real.  They loved being surrounded by friends and it seems they had many.

A good read!
