Not just president, but a father too.

lincoln-with-son-tadI like this picture of a more relaxed President Lincoln with his son, Tad, in 1865.  He had already lost his son Willie to typhoid, and I’m sure he cherished his Tad even more.

Lincoln had aged dramatically through the war years, as photos show. The love of his child must have helped to  sustain him during that time.

I imagine he had been consumed with thoughts of war and his massive responsibility as it dragged on year after year.  Now he had to reunite this savagely broken union.

President Lincoln might have been like many working  fathers of today, vowing to spend more time with the kids when he got the chance.  As we know, Lincoln never got the chance. Tad would soon be fatherless and heartbroken, as Lincoln was assassinated the same year as the photo.

Which U.S. Vice-President, Who Became President, Fathered the Most Children?

You may not recognize him, but he is John Tyler, who fathered fifteen children.

John Tyler became the tenth President of the United States (1841-1845) when President William Henry Harrison died in April 1841. He was the first Vice President to succeed to the Presidency after the death of his predecessor.

Oh Yeah, this could do it!

Bill Stice: Digital Photography

293367_245847018779420_2765964_nI am often asked how digital photography has changed my photography since it came about. I still have many images that originated as film images but I have high resolution scans of them and today I manage all of them digitally. I have included an example of what is possible with digital photography today that would have been much more difficult with film.

The first image of the Teton Range in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming is actually composed of seven different images that were taken separately and stitched together in Adobe Photoshop to make the final image. I have included a picture of this image framed on the wall of my bedroom.

The final image is 20 inches tall and 60 inches wide. I also made the frame myself out of Canadian Alder wood. The ability to control the process from capture to the final print ( I print all of my images on my own printer) has been the major change for me. In particular I am now in complete control of the final printed image.

Long Days Alone – Whose day can you brighten?

He eased out of bedman13

Shuffled to the bathroom, the kitchen, the porch for the paper.

With coffee in hand he slumped into his usual chair

and turned on the early morning news. Sighed.

Checked his stocks and signed again.

Why had he bothered to get up?

The phone rang. It was his eldest child saying she loved him and wished he’d come to visit.

hmmmm. He decided to shave for the first time in a week.  He even smiled at himself in the mirror.

Whew! So frustrating to have computer problems. Relief when they are fixed.

Photo on 2016-06-27 at 10.49A great big PTL!  I have been having trouble with my IMac and couldn’t work on this website as usual.

I just got it fixed, all by myself.  Whew!  So happy I didn’t have to call anyone!

Small successes build our confidence, especially as we get older!  KWIM?

10365807_799114010099451_7990177139169625360_nYesterday I was at the office working and developed a headache. It wasn’t bad and I thought if I could just close my eyes a minute, it would go away. Stanley frowns on us sleeping on our desk and it was too hot in my car so I decided to just run home for a few minutes to rest. On my way home, around 10am, I called The Spousal Unit and told him what was going on. I told him I was fine but asked him to check on me in a couple hours, just to make sure I was ok and that I woke up. Well, I went home, took a short nap and was back to the office, feeling great, by 11. Around 3:00 I was sitting in a driveway waiting on my client when it hit me Mike never called. I called him and asked if he had forgotten anything. He said he couldn’t think of anything. We said our good-byes and ended the call. A few seconds later, I get a text from him that says “Honey, how are you feeling?” I texted back a “too little – too late” colorful text. A few minutes passed and received a text reading “Did that just go through? I sent that text around noon.” Well played, dear… well played.

My love is Like a Red, Red Rose

by Robert Burns

MY love is like a red, red rose

That’s newly sprung in June:

My love is like the melodie
That’s sweetly played in tune.

So fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in love am I :
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till all the seas gang dry.

Till all the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt with the sun:
And I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands of life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only love.
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my love,
Though it were ten thousand mile.
