Hello Friends

November 29th, 2016 Comments off

I was paying for a service to tell me how many people came to the blog each day. For years I would write down the number. I haven’t done that for sometime now.  So I really don’t know if I have tens or hundreds or thousands perhaps ha ha coming to visit every day.

Whatever number it is, I appreciate each person who takes the time to stop by. I hope you will find something interesting in the categories that are listed. There are more than 8500 posts for you to see.  Don’t forget to check out the prayers that are written for many areas of life that confront us at different times. The prayers are short but sincere. You can find them above, as Prayers from the Heart.

Blessings on your day, be safe out there.

Desert Thanksgiving and Juliana

November 28th, 2016 Comments off

I spent the week in Arizona with my daughter-in-law’s family.  They have a large house and their generosity matches that big house. We had a wonderful time and felt grateful for many things in life.

Our Juliana Loved being with her three young cousins. She is still learning the social graces such as give-and-take, right and wrong, yours and mine. In her almost 2 years the world has pretty much revolved  around her,  and so it is understandable that she has a hard time realizing that  concept of sharing. But she is a fast learner and I am sure by the time they get together again she will have improved her social skills, no more hair pulling or grabbing something out of  someone’s hands.

Now if the world could love each other and improve their reaction to differences and then sharing it would be a much improved world. Hope your Thanksgiving was a good one and that you  are now up to the task of facing the stress and strain connected with Christmas. Have a good day everybody.

No black Friday for me. I can’t think of anything I want enough to fight the crowds today.

So, our family trip will be to the zoo. I have not been to the zoo in many years and I’m looking forward to it very much. Of course I always fight that feeling of entrapment for the animals,  and wish they didn’t have to be away for their natural habitats. Many, however would not survive without the protection of zoologists, with food and medication, who have saved many on the endangered list.

Whatever you choose to do today, make it fun or relaxing. Life is short. Giving thanks makes it worth living.

A Reminder for After Thanksgiving I must remember this every day!

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Wishbone, pulley bone, also called ‘Merrythought’

November 24th, 2016 2 comments

The furcula (“little fork” in Latin) is a forked bone found in birds and thecodonts, formed by the fusion of the two clavicles. In birds, its function is the strengthening of the thoracic skeleton to withstand the rigors of flight.

When I was a little girl I always requested one piece of the chicken – the pulley bone. I think Mama must have left extra chicken on it for me.  After eating it clean, I would wash and dry it and keep it in a little box with the others I had collected.   Sounds odd now, but my grandmother used to crochet around the bone and make a pretty little decorative piece.

Up until around 1900 Americans and Brits called it ‘Merrythought”, today it is called wishbone or as in the south where I grew up, it is referred to as pulley bone, especially when served as a piece of chicken with meat from both adjacent breasts attached.

Instead of collecting the bones, traditionally, the wishbone, once removed from the turkey or chicken and dried, is then held between the little fingers of two opposing “wishers”. Once the wish has been made the bone is pulled by each person. The wisher who breaks off a larger section of bone is assumed to have his wish granted.

Alternately, the winner of this contest may choose to transfer the fragment of the wishbone, along with the wish, to a person of his choosing.

Because this is commonly a Thanksgiving tradition, this bone is also called the Thanksgiving bone.  By whatever name, it is a tasty little morsel.

Happy Thanksgiving

Well I just renewed my domain name for another two years. That cost $50 because I include a protection of privacy of my information .  I also pay a hosting fee which is over $100. I’m not sure if it cost me any more than that or not.

I have debated whether to wrap it up and call it quits, but at least I will have it available for two more years if I choose to continue. For a long time it was like ” my baby”. It was the first thing I checked every morning and I worked on it all during the day. It was a wonderful place to add my writings and artwork. It’s still is,  but I am just not as excited about it as I was In 2009.  During that time I became fascinated with almost everything and was eager to share my findings with anyone who would come to my website.

As I stated many times, my goal was to inform, inspire, and amuse.  I said it would be patriotic but not political. I said I would share my faith but not my political leanings. Of late that has changed. I see now that  I cannot be patriotic without being political. Unfortunately they go hand-in-hand. I used to worry that people would not come to my blog if I expressed an opposing view, but I’m not going to worry about that anymore.

Hope fully I will get my curiosity back and look for more things to share instead of just expressing my opinion about daily events.  But that actually is what a blog is supposed to be, a journal, one man or one woman’s opinion expressed in written form on electronic media.

I want to thank you for reading and I will do my best to keep an open mind as our future unfolds collectively. I still trust in Almighty God to rescue us one more time.

Royal Marriage

November 21st, 2016 Comments off

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are celebrating 69 years of marriage.  I’m sorry I don’t have a picture available at the moment to share of their marriage day but they were, and continue to be, a handsome couple.

I hope they love each other and enjoy sitting with each other and sharing their grandchildren.  Many couples in their later years grow apart instead of closer. Health issues and other problems come between them and they no longer  feel the connection that brought them together in the first place. I hope that is not the case with them.

Although living a privileged life it has also been a life of some isolation and I hope they have had each other as their very best friends  and confidant.  So here’s to the queen and her prince, may they continue in good health to share life together.

Another Vent, so skip it if you don’t want to hear my views.

Did you watch President Obama’s press conference from Peru?  Intelligent, poised, articulate, appropriate.

This may be his last, before the presidency is turned over to a man who is none of those things.

I have watched every swearing in of the presidents, from the first time I had access to a TV. I doubt seriously if I will this time.

If it had been any other of the candidates on the Republican side I could have accepted it, but this is beyond understanding.

I am praying, not to accept his vulgarity or sick world view, but I am praying not to be consumed with anger with all the injustices that are bound to follow.

Maybe I am wrong, and I hope I am, but I believe people who voted for him will rue the day.

I guess it is good that my comments widget isn’t working, I really don’t care to have a discussion or argument, I am just using the power of the blog to vent my feelings, something I have rarely done, but the world has now changed  and I have a right to express my views, and so I have.

Get Up and Get Going!

photo-on-2016-09-24-at-12-50My back hurts. Now, I could blame it on many things, but it probably is from playing nonstop with my baby girl for a few days. Of course sleeping on a bed that is not your own can also make problems for someone with a back just waiting to hurt.  The stress of an election that won’t go away no doubt has made a visceral reaction and that is not good. Another reason for my back to hurt is that I don’t do my stretching exercises that I’m supposed to do  every day. Why don’t I? Does it really take that long? No. Are they hard to do? No then why don’t I do them when I know it is good for me? These are questions I am dealing with it trying to make myself become more disciplined.

I’m afraid I spend too much time sitting rather than moving. Now that I don’t have a dog to walk I have to find new motivation to get myself out there. Knowing it is good for my mind body and soul should be enough motivation so I am going to take myself by the nape of the neck pull myself up and go on.   That is one reason that I am dressed and ready to go to Bible study this morning. I didn’t want to get out of bed but the hot shower and made me feel better and I am motivated to go because I enjoy learning more about the word of God and enjoy seeing  My classmates who are so supportive of each other. I hope you have a blessed day and will do what’s good for you. We are  not in charge of the world but we are in charge of our own body and what we do with it. I pray I will be wise for the rest of my life however long that may be and I hope you will do the same. God bless you my friendS.
