‘Forgiveness’, by poet Jimmy Simpson

October 30th, 2017 Comments off

The Bible tells me how to live,

How to be humble and forgive;

But nowhere am I told to be,

A partner of iniquity,

Nor to abet by word or deed,

Repeat transgressors who impede.

Forgiveness is a noble act,

God asks of those who are attacked,

To show offenders love is true;

And that it matters what we do,

That by example, not duress,

Mankind might witness righteousness.

While saints do not participate,

In doings that are reprobate,

They do forgive and then forget,

Discretions that must be, and yet,

Remain beyond the reach of sin,

Because of Whom their faith is in.

 My therapist said that my narcissism
causes me to misread social situations.

I’m pretty sure she was hitting on me.

Don’t forget to breathe!

The reason Mayberry was so peaceful and quiet
was because nobody was
Andy, Aunt Bea, Barney, Floyd, Howard, Goober,
Gomer, Sam, Earnest T Bass, Helen, Thelma Lou,
Clara and, of course, Opie, were all single.
The only married person was Otis,
and he stayed drunk.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Yes friends, I turn 75 years old today.  Really?  Are you serious?

What happened to my 50’s and 60’s, where did they go?

Lots of changes in my life since I turned seventy,  5 years ago.  Many of the changes are sad,  mainly the loss of family members, 6 in 5 years.

Finding oneself less efficient, less productive, and not as healthy,  adds a layer of anxiety that can be a challenge. Feeling the stress of political upheaval is also hard on the nerves. Only relief is to truly turn it all over to God.  I am working on it. Praying to ‘abide’ more in Him and to live less in the things I cannot control.  I must believe that in the long run, God’s plan for us will win out.

Of course the most wonderful thing that has happened is that I

have become a grandmother to a fantastic little girl who makes

me smile.  She makes me feel loved and special.  So, as the Lord

taketh, He also giveth.  I thank Him for Juliana, Alice and Timothy,

and for all the other blessings that He and I know, even if I don’t list

them here.

Can I hear an ‘Amen’?

The poet remembers Glen Campbell

Glen Campbell

Fine words of comfort, spoken well,

Can neither alter nor dispel,

The sadness of a legend done,

Way back in yesterday begun,

By one who pioneered with song,

An age that always will belong,

To all of us still young at heart,

That shared each moment from the start.

Glen Campbell was a country lad,

Who gave to music all he had;

And wrote his name for all to see,

As part of music history,

With talent of a unique kind,

In tunes like “Gentle On My Mind”,

“A Rhinestone Cowboy” and delights,

Like “Galveston” and “Southern Nights”.

Now gone but unforgotten still,

He had a purpose to fulfill,

When from an early death, he rose,

At God’s discretion, I propose;

And with a gift to entertain,

Brought joy that ever will remain,

For all who shared an age of worth,

While Glen was singing on this earth.
