A Prayer

November 11th, 2016 Comments off

Dear God, we pray for the military, we pray for those who put their lives in harms way in order to protect this country. We pray for our commander-in-chief Barack Obama and for the man who will follow him in that position.  We pray you will give him more discretion and wisdom that he has demonstrated during the election process. Please help our country God, protect us not only from others but from ourselves.

In Christ’s name we pray amen

Prayers of a Sincere Young Heart – Ruth Graham

October 7th, 2016 Comments off

Written at the age of 13 the future Mrs. Billy Graham wrote this poem and then at 17 she wrote more of the description of the man she wanted to marry some day.

Dear God, I prayed, all unafraid
(as we’re inclined to do),
I do not need a handsome man
but let him be like You;
I do not need one big and strong
nor yet so very tall,
nor need he be some genius,
or wealthy, Lord, at all;
but let his head be high, dear God,
and let his eye be clear,
his shoulders straight, whate’er his state,
whate’er his earthly sphere;
and let his face have character,
a ruggedness of soul,
and let his whole life show, dear God,
a singleness of goal;
then when he comes
(as he will come)
with quiet eyes aglow,
I’ll understand that he’s the man
I prayed for long ago.

Ray Fowler writes: Ruth had just left the missionary field in China. She was on the USS McKinley on her way to Wheaton College when she wrote out what she wanted in a husband, even though she planned at the time to remain single and be a missionary! She was 17 years old.

“If I marry: He must be so tall that when he is on his knees he reaches all the way to heaven. His shoulders must be broad enough to bear the burden of a family. His lips must be strong enough to smile, firm enough to say no, and tender enough to kiss. Love must be so deep that it takes its stand in Christ and so wide that it takes in the whole lost world. He must be active enough to save souls. He must be big enough to be gentle and great enough to be thoughtful. His arms must be strong enough to carry a little child.”

She then met Billy at Wheaton, and the rest is history.

Never be too strong, too proud, too anything, to bow your head in reverent prayer.

Dear Father . . .

August 9th, 2016 Comments off

Dear Heavenly Father,

We are so grateful that you are an active part of our lives, that you didn’t just create us and leave us here to struggle on our own, but you made a way for us to know you and to have a relationship with you through your son Jesus.

We thank you for the sacrifice made on our behalf and for the beautiful example of resurrection that assures us that there is more waiting for us.

We stand in awe of your majesty and grace, with our hearts’ devotion, in Jesus’ name we pray.

Sounds of Your Life

January 3rd, 2016 Comments off

What sounds make up the sounds of your life?  Is it the cooing of your grandbaby, the rustle of the morning paper held in the hands of someone you love, a voice on the telephone saying you are missed and loved?  Is it the click-clack of the computer, the theme song of your favorite TV show, the bubbling of soup on the stove, the purr of your feline, or the whine of your canine when he hears you at the door?  Today, notice the sounds that fill you with the feelings of ‘home’ of who you are, and where you are at this stage of your life.  Resist the sounds that depress, and fill yourself with the good things all around you.

We pray:  Lord, help us to concentrate fully on the blessings of life.  Help us not to take our friends and loved ones for granted,  but to treat them with great love and respect.   Let us be more aware of the sounds around us that comfort and bless our lives.  We love you God, Amen

Guest Writer Lainey Thwing – Bedtime With Eden

11013520_550527343323_1207691572792231348_o“Ever since Eden was a wee little thing, I treasured putting her to sleep. We have our little routine that we have done now for so long. We sing old Calvary songs that my Dad use to sing to us kids when he would put us to sleep, we pray which ends up being a 10-20 minute conversation to God and we cuddle and give each other lots of kisses. Tonight Eden prayed for everyone she saw at the Fall Festival yesterday, “Baby Declan, Caleb, Caleb’s Mommy and Daddy, Baby Stella, Baby Stella’s Mommy, Sonny, Baby Lily, Cadence, Cadence’s Mommy, Baby August, Gavin, Daddy, Mommy, TreePa, Max the dog, Bella the dog,” and the list goes on. Eden is such a blessing and she daily reminds me I need to pray more for my friends and family. God blessed Ryan and me with such a precious jewel. I can’t thank God enough for my princess and our nighttime routine. And thanks Dad for the example you left before me. Jess, Nathan and I still talk about how much we loved singing and praying with you before bedtime every night.”

As Time Goes By . . . Gratitude and Prayer

October 11th, 2015 Comments off

I’ve had 41 years to be a mother but only 9 months to be a grandmother.  Both are incredible experiences that I feel blessed to have known.  What a joy to hold your own child and then to see that child holding his own baby.  It has had a profound affect on me, making me feel more complete as a human being, knowing my life will continue on past my years on this earth.

Please join me in prayer:

Our Holy Father, Our Loving God, who blesses us with all good things:  we adore you Father and are humbled to know that when we lift our hearts to you, you hear our prayers. Merciful Father, we ask your  blessing on our children and their children. Our hearts are filled to overflowing with love and gratitude. Help each one of us to live  according to your will, that we may be pleasing to you and fulfill our mission in this life before we join you in our true home.  Be with those who grieve today, comfort hearts and fill them with your promises.  In Jesus’ precious name we pray.  Amen

Dear Father in Heaven, you said, “Blessed are they who mourn for they shall be comforted.” We ask that comfort now, dear God, for those who are in the throes of grief and inconsolable pain at the loss of a loved one.  Provide their innermost needs and healing for their broken hearts. Give them peace and calm beyond their understanding. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen
