Another Neighborhood Artist

One of my neighbors, Dan, works for the movie studios.   His art work is striking.  I appreciate this piece being displayed for all to see, even if it does get dusty.

Who Cares for The Kitty Walk?

April 8th, 2017 1 comment

Who cares?

This is a sidewalk called the ‘kitty walk’ connecting our streets in the middle of the block.  This picture shows the great contrast between when a neighbor maintains the side nearest to his home and one who doesn’t take that initiative.

It should be the city’s responsibility to prune, clean and plant along the kitty walk, right?  But if they won’t, then who will?  I applaud the neighbor who has gone the extra mile.  It adds beauty to his home and makes it more appealing for everyone.

For the other side, I don’t want to just blame the neighbor next to it.  He may not even realize that it looks unsightly next to his home and that the dry grass could be a fire hazard.

Hmmmm, maybe we need a volunteer crew to do some work.

Mario

When Mario’s kids ask what he does at work, he can tell them that he delivers water to thirsty Californians, and he would be right!

He drives a very big red truck, keeps to a tight schedule, handles big heavy containers, hears the snarls, barks and yips of excited pets, and does it all with good humor.

My neighbors apparently are consuming quite a bit of the wet stuff, and good for them.  We need to keep hydrated to keep healthy.

Thanks Mario for your dependable, friendly service, Arrowhead is lucky to have you on their team, and  I bet your kids are lucky to have you as their Dad!

Mario is another one of the Schoolmarm’s Good Guys!

Daniela, Apple and Rocco

I have seen Daniela walking with her companions in the neighborhood, but today was the first time I was able to catch her for a photo.

Obviously my interest was piqued by the unusual size difference in her two best friends.

Standing tall and beautiful is Apple.  She is a Great Dane and proud of it.

Rocco struts his stuff and is just as proud of his Chihuahua  heritage.

He says, “Yeah, she’s a big girl, that Apple, but I’m still alpha male in this pack!  Come on girls, let’s move it!”

Harley, Oh Yeah!

When I met Kevin outside Staples today, I just had to have a picture.  Man, what a beautiful 2004 Harley Davidson Screaming Eagle, not a speck of dust would dare settle on that baby.

She’s a beauty, but be careful out there! There are some drivers who just might try to hog the road from your hawg!

Natalie and Louis

What are most people tempted to call out when they see their neighbors washing their cars?

Something like:  “Hey, how about washing mine next? haaa haa

I resisted, but it did go through my mind when I saw Natalie and Louis washing the vacation dust off their pretty white car.

Outdoor Grill

This is one of the best places in L.A. to get fantastic mesquite grilled ribs, chicken, tri-tip, salmon, and more.

If you live in the area, or are visiting in West L.A. be sure to go to the unpretentious OUTDOOR GRILL  Located at 12630 1/2 Washington Place

Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.

It is a small place with limited seating, so we usually pick up and take it home.

I see on their take -out menu that they offer  full service catering. They will come to your home or business, cook and serve. Sweet!

I haven’t been to the one in Northridge, but I imagine it is equally great, ’cause these folks know how to barbecue: 18697 Devonshire Street.

No, I’m not getting paid for this endorsement, I just love their food!  Thanks to #1 son who always finds the best places in town.

Margie’s Garden

April 1st, 2017 Comments off

When Margie is not performing at the local  Playhouse (and she is terrific) she works tirelessly in her garden.  Not a weed escapes her gloved hand!

Because of her  dedication she adds order and beauty to our street.  The rest of us benefit from all those hours of gardening ,and our pace slows down as we walk by, so we can enjoy it more.

Thanks Margie

Beautiful Bougainvillea

A neighbor’s house wears a jaunty beret of bougainvillea.  Not sure how good it is for the roof, but it certainly is pretty.
